We met with Nicole & Jon at their beautiful outdoor wedding location in Darlington PA.  We are primarily Akron-Canton Wedding Photographers and Videographers based in Uniontown, OH, but we LOVE to travel and see new places as Destination Wedding Photographers. The Gathering Place is a gorgeous spot for those who are looking to have an outdoor wedding by a lake, with an elegant-rustic feel due to the large log event center, log cabin, and a wooded backdrop.  Annie, the owner, was beyond helpful and sweet, and the views of the property, along with the spacious, but cozy cabin for wedding preparations, were perfect for Nicole & Jon’s wedding day.

Rustic Outdoor Wedding at The Gathering Place

Nicole and her bridesmaids prepped in the cabin, while Jon and his groomsmen came prepared for the day and mingled around the property.  It was so sweet to see Nicole with her youngest daughter & Flowergirl, Maya, getting their hair and makeup done together and having a conversation about what special events would be happening that day.  Then to see the oldest sister sit and talk with our adorable little Flowergirl, helping her put on her shoes, and get out some energy by jumping on the bed before the day really started rolling.

Wedding Ceremony by a Lake

With threats of rain all day, we were so thankful for the cloudy day, mixed with sunshine.  However, as soon as the wedding ceremony at The Gathering Place was wrapping up, and guests had moved into the reception hall, the clouds broke loose into a downpour.  Must just be a day full of luck for the new couple!  The outdoor ceremony by the lake and gazebo was beautiful and the guests rang bells as they were pronounced husband and wife.

Reception Hall in Darlington PA

The nice thing about having a wedding and wedding reception at The Gathering Place is that you get everything that you need in a single location.   Guests can walk comfortably between locations, and with all of the events of the day, you still have a great view over the lake.  There are gardens, flowers, pathways, and a few different buildings to all take advantage of while having your wedding pictures taken.  I only wish we could have stayed to see the sunset over the water and the pathway lined with lights.  The reception hall is like having an outdoor reception in an indoor location.  The walls of the reception hall are made entirely of sliding glass doors to have the option to enjoy the fresh air and breeze off of the lake or to close for warmth and simply enjoy the beauty of the venue.

Gorgeous Wedding Cakes and a Guest Dessert Table

Our couple decided to have a dessert table for their guests at their wedding reception.  There was a vast variety of delectable treats.  I just have to brag on my fellow vendor for a minute.  After a mishap (to no fault of the venue) with the couple’s original wedding cake, Annie and her team at The Gathering Place went out of their way to find and purchase a replacement cake for the bride and groom to cut.  This was when I realized that they get it.  They get that even though it was “just a cake,” it wasn’t “just a cake.”  It was a moment, a symbol, and a memory to be treasured by the couple, and Annie went above and beyond to preserve that memory.  She did a phenomenal job and found a gorgeous little cake for them to enjoy.

Bride and Groom Portraits at The Gathering Place on the Lake

We wrapped up the day as we enjoyed some cool dance moves of their guests and grabbed some portraits of the couple with just a pop of sunshine to brighten up the overcast skies.  Nicole and Jon were naturals in front of the camera and took each moment to enjoy the time that they had with one another as newlyweds on their wedding day.  Take a look below to enjoy a little highlight of their most special day:
